Tips: Removing, re-taping and recycling advice for tape hair extensions

In this fourth instalment of our tips blogs, we'll be discussing removing, re-tapping and recycling! Often the reason why some hairdressers are put off by tapes is the 'messy' removal and re-taping process. We're here to show you that removal and re-taping doesn't have to be messy, as well as telling you about the environmental and money-saving pot recycling hack we offer!

Removal of Tape Hair Extensions

Don't be afraid of tapes because you've had a bad experience in removing them, chances are you haven't been shown properly how to do it. Follow the steps below for seamless, mess-free removal of tape hair extensions

Step 1: Use a tail comb to gently separate the tapes, then spray 1-2 sprays of North Professional Hair Remover in between the tapes. Do not over-spray the remover, this will cause a mess. You just need enough to allow the alcohol solution to start dissolving the glue.

*You also want to avoid spraying the alcohol solution on the actual hair, as this has a drying effect on the hair.

Step 2: Take your tail comb and wriggle it in between the tapes, this will gently release the tapes from each other, spray 1-2 more sprays only if necessary. You should be able to gently pull away the top tape out of the hair, and then the bottom.

*Gently pull the tape away at the root, don't glide it through the hair.

Step 3: Once all the tapes are removed, use C22 or Rapid Release to remove any glue residue which is left in the hair. Work this through the client's roots where the tapes were fitted.

Step 4: Finally, use Malibu Undo Goo Shampoo on dry hair, then wash the client's hair 2-3 times, depending on when the client's hair was last washed.

This process will leave the client's hair completely glue-free and clean - ready for a re-fitting. We also recommend using a removal rack, this will help you determine where each tape was taken from, and where it should be re-applied.

Faster Re-taping of Tape Hair Extensions

A quicker re-tapping process is super important. Follow the below steps for a fast and efficient re-tape process. Always use professional standard re-tape tabs for professional results.

Step 1: Get your North Professional Hair tape tab sheet and turn it upside down.

*First cut in half if you are re-tapping North Professional Hair Mini-tapes.

Step 2: Fold back the bottom tape tab

Step 3: Place the tape extensions over the adhesive section and peel away the tape

Following these 3 simple steps will ensure your re-taping is quick and easy.
